Making homemade caramel sauce from scratch can be very stressFUL without the right recipe! Why not erase all of the stress and recreate your favourite soft caramel in sauce form by using this stressFREE simple caramel recipe!

My Simplest Caramel Sauce is silky, creamy, and only requires 3 ingredients to make! It turns out every time and is a must-have recipe when you’re in the kitchen! It is the perfect addition to ice cream, cupcakes/cakes, and cheesecakes (spoiler alert: our first caramel cheesecake recipe – using this caramel sauce!! – is coming soon to the blog! STAY TUNED)

To make this recipe you will need:

  • approximately 20 soft caramels
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/3 cup of cream (heavy cream or half-and-half both work well here)
  • *pinch of salt

Let’s make The Simplest Caramel Sauce!

Place your unwrapped caramels in a medium saucepan with water.

Heat mixture over medium-low heat until the caramels begin melting. Stir frequently.

Add cream and continue to stir just until mixture is smooth (~1 min).

Remove from heat, add pinch of salt, and poor into a container to cool.

Enjoy over your favourite cheesecake! 😉

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package Soft Caramels (such as Werther's) approximately 20 caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/3 cup Cream (heavy cream or half-and-half)
  • pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Place your unwrapped caramels in a medium saucepan with water. Heat mixture over medium-low heat until the caramels begin to melt. Stir frequently.
  • Add cream and continue to stir until mixture is smooth (~1 min). Add pinch of salt. Stir one final time.
  • Remove from the heat and poor into a container to cool.
  • This caramel sauce can be used while warm or cooled and stored in the fridge until use (up to 3 weeks).

Notes

Sofia’s Tips:
  • This caramel will continue to thicken as it cools!
  • It can be used while warm or out of the fridge
  • To regain a pourable caramel consistency out of the fridge, simply place caramel sauce in a heat-proof container and microwave/heat for a few seconds at a time until desired consistency is achieved
  • Enjoy over your favourite desserts!

    • Hey Callie, This caramel can last up to 3 weeks, stored in the fridge, in an air-tight container. The caramel will harden and so will need to be reheated before use. I like to keep my caramel in a mason jar (glass jar) and then use that to easily heat it in the microwave in 15-30s increments before I want to use it. Hope thats helpful! – Sofia
