It is *dare I say* the perfect compliment to your morning coffee!
Tired of spending hours prepping breakfast/dessert in the kitchen? This recipe is designed with simplicity in mind so you don’t have to. Banana bread is one of my favourite recipes to make when I’m looking to relax my mind, whisk away stress, and bake a tasty loaf I know everybody will enjoy! My Easy Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread recipe takes 10 minutes to prepare, makes use of common pantry ingredients, and requires very little clean up.
This easy recipe is the perfect solution to turn over ripe bananas and decadent chocolate pieces into an irresistible chocolate chunk banana bread!
1. Are my bananas too ripe?
No such thing! I believe that when it comes to banana bread, the more freckles on your bananas, the better! Typically, the longer a banana is left to ripen, the sweeter and more banana flavoured it will become. Unlike casually snacking, in banana bread, that ripeness of banana translates into a perfectly sweet and moist loaf, without too intense of a banana flavour! As a testament to this – I’m not a huge fan of banana flavour however I love Easy Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread!! 🙂
2. What can I add to banana bread?
When it comes to banana bread, I prefer using dark chocolate chunks for the perfect level of sweetness while making it just a little bit “healthy”. Feel free to mix it up and add nuts (walnuts are my favourite), chocolate chips, fresh fruit or dried fruit for a little variety!
Check out my Cranberry Banana Bread for another tasty variation!
3. I don’t have a loaf pan, now what?
Don’t worry! This recipe can also be used to make muffins! scoop the batter into muffin cups and bake for 20-25 minutes for the perfect chocolate banana muffins!
TO MAKE THIS RECIPE, YOU WILL NEED:
- Well Ripened Bananas (the more spots, the better!)

Let’s make some Chocolate Chip Banana Bread!
Start by preheating your oven to 350 F (325F convection bake). Lightly oil a 9″×5″ loaf pan.
In a large bowl, combine mashed bananas, oil, milk, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat well until all ingredients are incorporated.
Add eggs and mix together.
In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Combine with wet (banana) mixture. Mix gently until just combined.
Fold roughly chopped dark/semi-sweet chocolate into mixture.
Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with additional chocolate chunks.
Bake for ~70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.

I’d like to try this recepie but, since we use grams and kilograms, can you tell me what size of a cup you use?
Thank you for your comment Nat! I am still working on updating all my recipes with metric measurements however I have now updated this recipe! Happy baking! Let me know how it goes 🙂
Amazing, simple and delicious! Thank you for putting metric measures 🙂
I was confused by the flour measurement. Can you give the weight of the flour needed? Also, does the recipe call for 3 bananas or 1 cup? 1 banana is close to 1 cup, so it can be widely different. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment! The flour measurement has been corrected to grams and I have updated the banana measurement. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I hope you enjoy the recipe! 🙂
